The past few weeks have been a constant up and down. We've been planning to go home for Christmas for quite some time. Especially over the past week restrictions have been tightened and it's been made more and more difficult to travel. But now we are here, Naantali.
Travel restrictions, quarantines and the amount of testing that is required to come to Finland and especially to go back to China made it a tough decision whether or not it is worth leaving Shanghai over Christmas or not.
But there is a psychological component to being here that makes it worth all the effort. I don't want to list all the "ifs" and "whens" that we had to go through before finally deciding to make the journey. But there were quite a few and we have to wait and see how everything pans out from here.
For now, I just want to share with you some of the reasons why I love coming here - the natural behavior of social distancing is definitely one of them - and why this place over all other places is where some day I want to grow old...
10 o'clock in the morning...
About 3-4 hours of this per day makes you forget that there are 20+ hours of darkness...
10.500 years after the last ice melted around here - water, tundra, now birches and pines...
Nature really does some crazy things...
